Behind the Poem: Hold Space

Hello Poetteers, Original Poem Always when I talk with you, I'm afraid to say everything because I think you might not understand it all because of the somewhat different beliefs we have. Yet you ask questions to help me. And I'm glad you do. We are, together breaking down another wall of isolation. Response Poem I hold back afraid to say anything worried you might not understand because of the different beliefs we have;  you say something that contradicts my beliefs and I shrink back wishing someone else was in place where I didn’t have to explain the cultural expectations before expressing how I feel You are willing to ask questions and learn it feels tiring like there’s no space for me. Behind the Poem I enjoy sharing my beliefs and values. Sometimes I get tired of having to explain my religious beliefs and cultural values, especially before pouring out my emotions. I wish people were more aware and understanding of different cultures and religions. That right there is why...

Response to 'A to Z Poetry'

Hello Poetteers, Like any other writer my work has evolved through the years. A to Z Poetry is my first book. Reading from it makes me cringe. There are still some gems in it. I don’t want to unpublish it. I want myself and my readers to see the evolution. For its 7th anniversary I decided to write a few response poems to the book. Original Poem  Everyone has their own guardian angel guiding us always they are here to protect us from everything guardian angels are always there every step of the way. Response Poem My heart should have been hurt but I walked away without a scratch I feel a sense of peace wash over me as I know an angel was watching over me protecting my heart. A to Z Poetry is available for purchase on Smashwords . stay inspired, Fida

Important Transitions of an Author

Hello Poetteers, In the 7th grade I learned about poetry but I was turned away from it. A year later I was taught about poetry and fell in love with it. I enjoyed the assignments and wrote a bit extra but I didn't continue. Throughout the year I got into it and eventually started a blog. It was a place I could share all my poems. A year after starting my blog I had my first piece published . Towards the end of 2011 I started to learn about self publishing and read self published books. On Feb 2012 there was a independent author conference. Later that year, in the fall, I published my first poetry book . I called self publishing my business. My blog continued to be for me. Within the past year I've been working on my blog from being for me to being for my audience. stay inspired, Fida

A to Z Poetry Anniversary

Hello Poetteers, Three years ago today I got to call myself a published author. Three years ago I published my first poetry book, A to Z Poetry. The journey was and still is full of discovery. It was the push I gave myself. It was the push that started it all. I'm so grateful for this. The connections I made with people opened doors for me. Those people shared their knowledge with me. For the first time there was a free online conference for independent authors. It covered everything from design to distribution. I got to teach myself what would have taken years in a matter of months. It was a lot of trial and error. It is all about networking and what you can bring. There is more to come. I'm excited and can't wait to share it with all of you! Stay inspired, Fida

'A to Z Poetry' Cover Process

Hello readers,  Today is the first day of the blog tour! I'm staying here on my blog to share the cover process. I thought since it's about my poetry I should compile a collage as the cover, but blur it for the text. I liked it and thought I would use it, but after awhile it didn't feel right.  Someone told me they wanted me to use a picture of myself since the poems were about me. I chose a good picture from camping and turned it black and white.  I thought to keep it simple and keep the text to the left.  It didn't look right. I changed it to the right.  It still didn't look right. There was too much space. I adjusted the words and the colors. I made my cover! And there you have it! I hope it was good! Love,

Where I Offically Announce It!

Hello readers, After so many years of being told I need to publish my poetry. Even after publishing bits in magazines I keep hearing it. They want a collection. I try to research some publishers, but it didn't seem right. Soon self publishing sees the light. I do some research, go to my first online conference and gain the confidence I needed. But I didn't have the money. I hear about crowdfunding and tried it, but it failed. I've created my own cover or two, it's minimal unlike other people's but I'm in love with it. I found people to help me with editing. A to Z Poetry will be published September 19, 2013 - add it on Goodreads ! Also, I am wondering who is willing to help out with the cover reveal on the 4th? And the blog tour on the week of the 16th? Let me know by filling the sign up form . Also sign up for the poetry blogfest on the week of the 9th! The fest will have challenges and I'll be picking my four favorites at the end of the week to h...
