Short Story: Little Red Hijab

Back in 2014 I wrote a short story with a little twist on little red riding hood. Enjoy!  Once upon a time lived a little girl named Ruqayyah. She lived in a small town with her parents. She didn't like being in big cities because it was busy and dirty. Grimy people were lurking in the shadows. She had the charm to make them good. There was something about her green eyes.  Her mother loved the color red and thought it would go well with Ruqayyah's green eyes. Mom bought red fabric and stitched her a headscarf. Ruqayyah loved it. She wore it every day.  One day her mother said to her: 'Come, Little Red, here are some homemade cookies, fruit, and dates; take them to your grandmother, she is ill and weak, and they will help her. Go before it gets hot, and walk nicely and quietly and do not run off the path, or you may fall and break the cookies or scrape your knee, then your grandmother won't get anything; and when you go into her room, don't forget to say, "Good...

Poetry - Sestina Form

Hi everyone, One goal I set as a New Years resolution was to explore new poetry styles. I was reading Lynn Crawford 's Fancy earlier. It's a Sestina-Story. Without looking at the notes I was able to find three of the six words. I was talking to my mom and she ended up reading the story too. She didn't want me to give her the words until after she read it. She got one of the six words right. This format is interesting. It has gotten me excited and re-inspired my love for writing poetry. I did a bit more research on Sestina and it continues to put me in awe. Some people have different ways of interpreting it. Check out this poem . The author picks six words and sticks to only those six words, just rearranging them yet the different punctuation adds to the poem. I attempted to write a piece: The fall of leaves blanket the ground the cats play in it as it swirls into the flowers I stay indoors with my coffee and chocolate The smell of coffee and chocolate lure...

Tree-houses and Teachers

I was sitting in my Tree house with my personal Trainer. She was on the phone with her daughter. She was speaking a different language. I was about to leave when I heard something, "أنت في المتجر؟ انا بحاجة الى التفاح والشوكولا." She said something about apples and chocolate. I understood that. I never knew that. She didn't even say anything in English or made any movements indicating what she said. I didn't even grow up in an Arabic speaking home. Maybe my friends have some influence. I guess I should learn it. Maybe instead of just a personal Trainer I should hire a Tutor. Love and thank you, Fida

#LoveAThon Mini Challenge 3

Hello Poetteers, I have a story for you: One day, I was WRITING with PARK. Out of the blue, a CAT came out of nowhere! It was so FAT, SLOW and ORANGE. At first, we were afraid, we were petrified, but we RAN. We hopped on CAR to make our getaway. As we escaped, we turned up the radio because UNWRITTEN came on and made me HAPPY. Everything was extremely smooth sailing until a DOG appeared in the middle of the road. We swerved to avoid it, but while PARK stayed on CAR, I got thrown onto my side in the woods. I couldn't get up, and felt SORE as I lay there staring up at the trees. What was I going to do? I heard a RUSTLE among the leaves, and felt SCARED. Surely, this was going to be my end. As my eyes fluttered shut, the last thing I saw was a head of BLOND hair and BLUE eyes. When I woke up again, I was on a BED. My body hurt a whole lot less, and I could sit up. There was a ROOMMATE and NURSE in the room, along with SANDWICHES and WATER. The door suddenly opened to reveal LEVI, a...

Hello readers,  I have a somewhat a new segment for you as you can tell by the title. Let's get to it! Day 13:  "I love walking around campus at night. You get to see the moon and stars. Only the street lamps light the path. It's beautiful. I may trying writing sometime in this place. For now the poem will have to do." "We are not sheep here. No one herds us and we don't follow anyone. Yet I must say we have a few black sheep among us. It's awkward." "An eye of a tiger is something I try to capture in words like I once tried in drawing." "Sometimes you got to love yourself a little more to get the energy you need to keep going." Day 15:   "It just really pisses me off that my existence is not that important to be listened to and peacefully said hello to." "I think her heart got the rest of her body sick because of missing me." Day 21:   "The moon shimmered on the clouds, on the water at the beach along wit...

Short Story - An Angel's Help

Hello readers, An Angel's Help "Outside the rain fell like gray sheets over the world. Trees bent, kneeling to the force of the wind. In the distance, a brilliant blue flash of light broke the sky. Moments later the answering rumble of thunder rolled through the air. I watched the storm through the glass window. My gratitude for the shield provided by my small home increased with the intensity of the storm. Another flash of lighting and the room plunged into darkness. This time the thunder shook the house. Behind me, I heard the eerie sound of a door creaking open. My blood ran cold. Slowly I turned..." Slowly I turned to see no shadowy figure. Yet my cat kept on looking around and meowing. I remember learning that cats see not only better but another dimension. It got me thinking when a flash of light lit the doorway and I heard a voice. I still couldn't really see, but what I saw amazed me. It was wings of an angel. "Peace be with you, daught...

Flash Fic: Covered

Hello readers, Why Are You Covered? It's a question I always hear. I'm a Muslim girl and I'm doing what I need to do. That's also the reason why I didn't get much sleep last night. It's Ramadan and I was at the mosque helping set out the food and breaking my fast. I might have been stuffing my face, but my family is known to help the community a lot. We give money to charity, but we also go to random people's houses and see if the need anything done. I have to say we don't help just because we're Muslim. I'm an undercover ninja! This is my first attempt on flash fiction. As you know my writing is my own original piece. Please do not reproduce without permission. btw, check out this site I found: Ninjabi Comics . Fida

Excerpt of Reflection

Hello readers, I won't be part of I-reached-my-goal celebration, I finished NaNoWriMo at 6,800 words. Take a look at this excerpt. I go to the mall some time a week before school starts getting school clothes when I see someone familiar. It looks like it is Yasmine and her group of friends. The only sad thing, though, is when I see them I immediately think of my group of friends. I miss them more as each day passes. I decide to go re-introduce myself. “Hi, I’m Sufia,” I say. “Sufia? I remember you from my trip to Malaysia a few summers back. How are you?” “I’m doing fine, how about you?” I say. “The same, what brings you to Michigan?" She asks... This is an excerpt of a Reflection. As you know my writing is my own original piece. Please do not reproduce without permission. Thank you,  Fida
