My Top 4 NaNo Resolutions

Hi everyone, We are midway through NaNoWriMo. My word count is currently at 14k. In their recent email they asked about our resolutions for the rest of the month. My resolution is to let go of the worry of not reaching 50K. 2) to write consistently everyday (mornings work best for me). 3) to continue writing everyday towards my novel after this month is over and to continue to write after 50k, until the story is at the end. Love, Fida Check out my book, Her Treasures .

End of Year Goals

Hello Poetteers, Thank you Ava for getting me to think about the end of the year and my goals! Check out her end of the year goals . • Publish the book! I've been slowly doing the process throughout the year. It will finally be released on Thursday! • See success in merch store I recently opened a merch store and have new/more ideas for it but I have to see it go somewhere, mostly up, do to more. • Start a new project I got a new story idea brewing but I haven't written for a novel in a long while. Hopefully NaNoWriMo helps! • Finish my GR reading challenge My goal is 60 books but I'm six books behind. I hope I'll be able to accomplish it with my weekly trips to the bookstore. I have a couple more personal goals too. Yet I won't be sharing those. What are your goals for the end of the year, before the year ends? Thank you, Fida

Friday Thoughts

Hello readers, There is a the cool thing about poetry. Everyone interprets it differently. There is no right or wrong answer. It's interesting to see and why they think one way. You may think it another way but understand that other person, too. Besides my own poetry, you should check out the four poems I just read: Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti Truth by Emily Dickinson Fire and Ice by Robert Frost This is Just to Say by William Carlos Williams I hope you let me know what you think and I'll share my thoughts. Love and thank you, Fida

Ramadan: Week One Reflection

Hello Poetteers, Today we will have completed one week of fasting. Because of Allah’s say I fasted two of those days. The very first and second day. In them I got to experience two different fasts. Day one I was home all day. I prayed all five prayers. Yet that was the only good thing. I was lazy and on my phone/internet all day. That’s what made fasting be so easy. I was distracted. I need to change that. To still be distracted but in a more positive and productive way. Only half of us were home to break fast. The others were at the mosque breaking their fast. I loved the peace and quiet. Day two I spent the morning at work. The night before I was at the mosque praying taraweeh. It was late. I got home after midnight. I did sleep but sahoor was three hours away. Afterwards I did sleep again. But at work I was exhausted and in a bad mood. I was impatient. I need to work on my time management. A more well rested Fida is a happy Fida. Coming home from work I planned to sleep until Iftar....

Write. Be. Encouraged.

Salaam (peace) readers! What gives you encouragement to keep writing? What encourages me to write is my mother when she read a story I forgot to close and tells me she loves it and wants and can't wait until I publish it and when she even says it about writings I don't intentionally write for future publications What encourages me inspires me like waking up in the middle of the night cuz I can't sleep and I don't know why like watching a show, reading a book, or listening to a song where a line pulls my heartstrings to write like seeing the harmony of nature or simply everyday activities. What encourages me is the love I have and want to show. -Fida Islaih {all writing is copyrighted}

This Might Explain...

Hello readers, Escape I get no break I have no escape except in my thoughts blocking everything out and thinking of Allah. I have no escape unless I find silence and stay there like in nature seeing, feeling makes me calm and helps me find my peace. In Allah, is my only refuge. (written Sept 20, 11) thank you, Fida

Faith Friday: Believe

Hi to my new readers!  If you're here for my poetry fest entries, go one post down . If you're here for my entry for Ali Cross's blog fest, it's a little different than you expect but enjoy! Unexpected Turns It's Independence day or just the fourth or July if you want to call it that yet that doesn't matter when something unexpected happens. Going to Niagara Falls as a family was the plan, but having sat in a car for 8 hours and being surrounded by boys was too much. My body ached emotionally and physically I wanted to be alone. I got that for a few but my little cousin also stayed behind and wanted me to hang out. I did for awhile but sleep was calling and I was able to answer. But again I was interrupted cuz the family was home talking about the fun seeing a sunset on the falls and the fireworks coming after that they say I missed so much and I know I did but rest was really needed. ~137 words --- Also, there is ...

Faith Friday: Story poem

3/11/11 Update: poem published on Dear Little Auntie. *** Hello readers, I can definitely say this week is better than the rest of January, Alhamdulillah! I'm taking a creative writing class and our first project was to write a memoir. While writing I was inspired to write a corresponding poem: Cover Girl That girl... inspired by so many women, women that cover. Seeing them, wanting to be... like them, with them. That girl taking the step to become that covered girl. Tough times came being stared at and questions asked, even being poked at. But being in a sisterhood they helped pull through knowing God is who to please. Through time she became stronger, more confident; she became free. (inspired on Jan 27th, but written on Jan 28, 2011). thank you, Fida
