Likes & Dislikes

Assalamu Alaikum readers, I've been on an iffy mood lately, so I started rambling on dislikes. But we need to balance it out with likes. So here goes: I dislike that after we spent time together we don't say a closure of see you later or bye. I dislike that sometimes you're too busy for me. Or that you just put me at then end because you want to. I dislike being rushed or having to wait too long. I like that you read my notes and sometimes even my eyes, that you give a gentle touch and come talk with understanding and give advice. I like that you give me a chance to get out of class and collect myself. This is just a few. There is more, but I don't want to enter a never ending rambling. Allah did make us human with emotions, yet we have to understand and accept that Allah has a reason for every good and bad that happens. Insha'Allah and Alhamdulillah. There is, though, some people I want to tag: Zara, Fatimah, and TheSisterWhoSmiles. And if you...

Book Review - Moving Across the Globe

Hello readers, I recently read Habibi by Naomi Shibab Nye. Habibi is Arabic for my love or darling. One would think it is about a romance brewing, but instead, it is about the mixed feelings of moving out of the country. Liyana, the main character, and her family move from America to Palestine. Before arriving in Palestine, there is another trip. The family had a stop in New York and went sightseeing. The father shares stories of when he arrived years ago. Soon enough they arrive in Palestine and on that same day they meet their relatives. Within one country are many different cultures and one gets to see it play a role in the family's life. Liyana finally finds a friend, yet it is a boy, a Jewish boy. One would think trouble will brew, but another barrier is broken. As one reads on, one sees modern mixed with the old and the simple life Palestinians live. One could notice the little things like the shops, food, and dessert. If one tried the food before and gets pleas...

It's 2012!

Assalamu Alaikum sisters! It's the first day of 2012. Before I get to it, I'd like to say I didn't post about looking over 2011 cuz what I wrote was too personal. Way more than my poems. I know, shock. 2011 has been a year of bad changes in me, and towards the end is the only time I realized why. So may 2012 bring much more light to me and you. My moment as the years changed was clasped hands, in hope. Alhamdulillah! New Year It's New Years Eve hours tick by it's New Years! As the minute changes my hands clasp in hope for so much... but the most of all, through both days I tell myself I won't shed any tears... not for all the bad that's happened not for the good I'm leave not for that fact of change not for anything. All I'm doing is hoping telling myself I won't shed any tears, today. {written Jan 1, 2012} Love, Fida

Wed Rant: Angels

Assalamu Alaikum sisters! I hope you are all excited for a new year coming. But don't forget that angels are watching... Recently I was listening to a lecture, I forget by who, but it was about our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). One thing mention that popped out to me was this: "Don't walk in your house naked, there are creatures (the angels) inside your house." So my mind hit scattered thinking. Back to the prophet's story. Remember when he was in the cave? And angel Jibreel came to him. Our Prophet didn't know it was the angel. He thought it was a jinn. And you know he rushed to Khadejjah's arms, asking for comfort: telling the story. She then did an experiment. When she took of her hijab, the presence went away and when she put it back on it came back. See? Angels know and understand modesty. So then I thought of myself. At times I forget to take off my hijab, but I know it's there. And so when I heard this I was thinking maybe that...

Monday Blessings #9: Religion

Hello readers, It's the day after christmas, 2 days left in Hanukkah, 4 days until New Year's Eve! I hope you're all stuffed with food and love; may it keep going on. We are in the middle of holidays and I think this post is perfect: Religion by Kate . It inspired me, but after I wrote this poem. I hope you enjoy both, thanks! (: Why does religion have a name? Islam means submission to God and its follower, a Muslim, follows Muhammad (pbuh) and his doings dedicating time to worship God. Judaism is for Jews the relationship they created with God. Christianity is for Christians following the teachings of Jesus. So why does religion have a name? We all believe in the same God, same angels and prophets... We all interpret it in our own ways yet I still don't know why religion has a name and I don't care... As long as I keep getting closer to God and He accepts me. (written on Dec 21, 11) love, Fida

1 Muharram 1433

Assalamu Alaikum sisters, As I hope you know, today is the first day of the new year in the Islamic calendar. We're already starting our 2012 ! Since Friday night and today I've been spending it writing poetry about nature and love. And working on my nano. (W)rite now, my total is 9,990 words. My goals for this new year: 1) write 1k each day for novelizing. Make poetry big, maybe start getting paid. 2) Exercise body: Yoga 30 mins each day. 3) Exercise soul, too! Pray all 5 prayers, fast, keep tongue moist Allah's name... (just keep improving as Muslim) 4) Be more outgoing and strong emotionally and physically. Stand up for what you believe. If frustrated be able to talk what really is on your mind (resource teacher does care). 5) Last but not least, love. (it's hard to explain, but Allah knows what's in my heart and if He wills, will make it come true sooner than I think). Have a great new year and may Allah bless us all! Ameen! (: -written ...

This Might Explain...

Hello readers, Escape I get no break I have no escape except in my thoughts blocking everything out and thinking of Allah. I have no escape unless I find silence and stay there like in nature seeing, feeling makes me calm and helps me find my peace. In Allah, is my only refuge. (written Sept 20, 11) thank you, Fida
