The Quiet Muse and a Party

Hello Poetteers,

I'm a day late to the Muse Party but I thought I should still come. You can find the other guests here!

1. Who is your muse (or character)? Tell us a little bit about him/her and why you brought them.

My muse is love. Lately it has been between relationships with people, nature and oneself.

2. What are you guys wearing? Dressing up or keeping it casual?

Right now we are keeping it casual I have on a beanie, kimono and jeans. My muse's is in a vest and jeans.

3. It’s a potluck! Did you bring something yummy!

We pitched in and baked brownies together for all of you, enjoy!

4. Open bar! What are you both drinking (booze or otherwise)?

Neither one of us are allowed to drink. My muse has the usual cherry coke and I have a raspberry lemonade.

5. Wallflowers or social butterflies?

I'm a wallflower. My muse is in between. It tries to get me to be a social butterfly.

6. What song(s) will you and your muse sing for karaoke?

Good question! Maybe 'See You Again'. My muse has been listening to it and got it stuck in my head.

7. What’s your favorite party game?

Scrabble!

8. Which one of you is more likely to end up dancing on a table top?

My muse. It likes to embarrass me and take me out of my comfort zone.

9. Has your muse been a good date and would you ever hang out with them again?

I think yes. It was a good partner.

Thank you for having us,

Fida

P.S. I have three poetry books: A to Z Poetry, Her Olives, and Hugs & Kisses for you to enjoy!

Guest Author: Laura A. Lord

Hello Poetteers,

Laura A. Lord is the author of numerous collections of vignettes and poetry and one awesome children’s book about a T-Rex screwing up her entire day. It’s absolutely a true story.

Laura’s work has been featured in The Beacon, The Collegian, Whirl with Word, Tipsy Lit, Precipice, Scary Mommy, The Powder Room, The Reverie Journal, and Massacre Magazine.

Her newest collection, Of Roots and Wreckage, focuses heavily on where she grew up. Split into three sections, this collection explores the ideas of “roots” and hometowns, of people and change, of aging and death.

Want to win a free copy of Laura’s Of Roots and Wreckage? Enter Laura’s Goodread’s Giveaway Here!

Here is a selection from Of Roots and Wreckage:

Orange Grove Society

She kept the kettle,
gray and chipped,
on the back burner of
the little gas stove
full of hot water
and the peels of
six oranges,
so that

the entire house smelled
like a grand march
through the groves
of her childhood home.

It was a scene reborn,
the transgression of time
dispersed in the flickering
candle flame that
dripped red wax into
the shape of Africa,
cinnamon scented on
the sideboard.

The entire house sang
of ancient rites,
passage through the asylum,
aging slow in wicker chairs.

She, the demimonde of orange grove society.
Myself, the keeper of the candle’s flame.

Currently...

Hello Poetteers,
{Fun fact: What's Up Wednesday was based at least in part off of the Currently... post that had been circulating at the time. Thanks goes to Katy Upperman and Jamie Morrow for starting this up again so we all have a way to touch base now that WUW is no longer.}

Loving...

The sound of thunderstorms. It is comforting (even though it can make you jump).

Reading...

My latest reads has been AN EMBER IN THE AHES by Sabaa Tahir, WRITTEN IN THE STARS by Aisha Saeed, and CHILDREN OF THE STONE by Sandy Tolan. A diverse list, of course. A fantasy, a contemporary, and a non-fiction. All three were amazing!

Watching...

I don't watch any TV, but if you see me in front of a screen its vlogs and book tube.

Listening to...

The album The Path by Raef, literally. It's on as I write this! Also, City of Lights by Kareem Salama.

Thinking about...

Future projects and events.

Anticipating...

Summer break and more time to work on what I love. Also, secret things and not so secret things like the upcoming fall release of my 4th poetry collection!

Wishing...

For something to sweep me of my feet and onto something amazing.

Making me happy...

The sun and warm weather, wearing skirts, being inspired by dreams and love, writing endless amounts of poetry.

Love, Fida

JuNoWriMo Blog Hop

Hello Poetteers,

In a month it will be JuNoWriMo!

"For those of you who are unfamiliar with JuNoWriMo, it’s a month long writing adventure in the style of NaNoWriMo, complete with word sprints and plenty of other writers to cheer you on. The goal is to write 50,000 in one month (1,667 words a day). You can write whatever you want. Fiction, non-fiction, the final 50k to something you started five years ago. Anything. We’d love to have you write with us!"

I will be working on the same story I started to write during camp nano back in April. The story I'm working on is about a Muslim girl balancing her faith in her love for soccer and fashion design.

Yet that might change into a new story with similar themes. We'll see where the months and planning takes me.
