Top Ten Tues #3: Difficult Reads

Hello!

I published this before seeing other posts but after I did I'm updating this post. I'm splitting this into two parts.

BOOKS I DIDN'T START OR FINISH

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson - Its hard for me to read about eat disorders and such. But recently I read other books with similar topics, so hopefully one day I will try again.

Beloved by Toni Morrison - it's a classic and I hope to try again.

Persuasion by Jane Austen - again, a classic and I hope to try again.

Stolen by Lucy Christopher - I DNFed it but with everyone giving praise I want to try again. I think I just got bored of the dessert scenes.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini - I have it. Lots of people said it's really good but also really sad so I've been avoiding it.

BOOKS I READ

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer - it just wasn't my kind of read.

Of Mice and Men - an okay and sad read.

Brave New World - my first dystopian read and I didn't like it.

Unwind by Neal Shusterman - my second dystopian read and I enjoyed it.

Psst... I don't have a number 10. But I see lots of people put historical fiction. I could have, too, but it's my number one favorite genre.

Thank you,

Fida

Friday Thoughts

Hello readers,

There is a the cool thing about poetry. Everyone interprets it differently. There is no right or wrong answer. It's interesting to see and why they think one way. You may think it another way but understand that other person, too.

Besides my own poetry, you should check out the four poems I just read:

Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti
Truth by Emily Dickinson
Fire and Ice by Robert Frost
This is Just to Say by William Carlos Williams

I hope you let me know what you think and I'll share my thoughts.

Love and thank you,

Fida

What's up Wednesday

Hello readers,

What I'm Reading

I just read Burn for Burn (Burn for Burn, #1)Burn for Burn by Jenny Han

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It was a fun read. An intense read. It reminded me a bit of Pretty Little Liars. I never read a book like this: where the popular girl is part of the main character role. Where revenge is the main plot. This story is told in three point of views. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

I'm in the midst of reading DREAMLAND by Sarah Dessen and THE PROPHET by Khalil Gibran.

What I'm Writing

Still no major writing.

What Else I've Been Up To

Our mosque had their annual friendship feast. I got to hand out my poetry book promo cards and even signed one!

Love and thank you,
Fida

What's up Wednesday

Hello readers,

What I'm Reading

I finally read my first Sarah Dessen book.

This LullabyThis Lullaby by Sarah Dessen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love the friendship the four girls have. All their little things together. I love the descriptions of being a writer. At first I didn't like dexter, then was iffy about him, but now I like their friendship. I love her mother. I'm sad about her marriage but glad she's okay. And finally I love the full circle the song came in.

Along with that, I just finished my second Ellen Hopkins book. The first being BURNED.

RumbleRumble by Ellen Hopkins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In the beginning I was on edge with Matt and Hayden. The one with faith or the one without faith. I love that there wasn't too much or too little, just the right amount of talk about faith.

I kept going between which of them to like. And there also was his dad, which I didn't like. Also, there was Gus. I thought he was a minor but if you've read other Ellen Hopkins books you would know he is important. He's a wild card.

But then we meet his uncle, Quin and Alexa. And his mom gets better. I love the simplicity of how he learns about prayer. How he slowly opens up with each accident. The end was both saddening and filled with content. I was in shock and awe of it.

What Else I've Been Up To:

I haven't started noveling yet, like I said last week I'm on a hiatus until October. I have been writing poetry and studying.

What Works For Me:

I may not be noveling right now but I do journal. Whether I had a busy day or not I squeeze in some time before bed and again right when I wake up.

As for poetry, I don't write everyday but when I do I right a lot and cannot be interrupted. I'll spend a half an hour outside if I have to.

Love and thank you,

Fida

Monday Blessings #29

Hello readers,

I gave myself a bookstore date this weekend.

It's been a month since HUGS & KISSES has been published!

I'm featured on Muslimah Montage!

This past week has been starting to feel like Autumn. I've already had two pumpkin spice frappes. I gotta confess I like it better than the latte.

Because it's finally Autumn I got some new sweaters.

And finally, I got a new iPhone case. I heard about the watch they are coming out with, it sounds cool.

Oh and I can't forget!
Take care of every heart
every human heart
including yours
be blessed to be stressed.

Thank you and love,

Fida

Book Review: Shorts

Hello Poetteers,

It seems I love these kind of books that are mixed with short stories and poetry and are about recovery.

This is the second one I've read. The first happening to be IN THE REARVIEW. Yet it was fiction as this one is non-fiction.

ShortsShorts by Tessie Regan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I'm not into the drinking scenes in the book but I skimmed over it and sometimes I don't. She also talks about the road to recovery.

There is a lot about God that a believing person would like to read, if your not then you probably shouldn't read or should have an open mind.

Her writing is beautiful. The drawings are awesome!

This book is not yet published but is excepted to be released Oct 21, 2014!
